Falmouth Classics | Accommodation Available at Creekside Cottages
Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week, 11th - 19th August 2012, is the second largest annual regatta in the UK, and has been held in this picturesque Cornish port every August since the early 20th century. Around 450 boats race over eight days, and visitor numbers usually exceed 100,000.Falmouth is said to be the third largest natural deep-water harbour in the world, and the sailing conditions in the Fal estuary, especially the part of the estuary to the north-east of Falmouth and Penryn known as the Carrick Roads, are second to none.
The Falmouth regatta week opens, on the first Saturday, with the Falmouth Classics event. Over the next six days there are a series of races for keelboats, traditional craft and dinghies in the waters of Falmouth Bay, the Carrick Roads and the Harbour. On the final Saturday Classic Superyachts - magnificent craft built in the early 1900s with an overall length up to 45m and with professional crew - race for the Pendennis Trophy.
The town of Falmouth, as well as St Mawes and the villages around the Carrick Roads, embraces the party, making Falmouth Week a festival for residents and visitors alike. In Events Square in Falmouth town centre and at the nearby Princess Pavilion there is a full programme of music, with stalls selling food and drink, suffusing the whole town with a party atmosphere.
