The World Bellyboard Championship - Chapel Porth

A very simple, back-to-basics competition with no wetsuits, no leashes and no swim fins. A bit of wood and a swimsuit is all you need.

The World Bellyboard Championship is held on the first Sunday in September. Organised and hosted by the National Trust, it is a celebration of all things connected with the art of riding traditional wooden boards. No wetsuits, only bathing costumes are allowed which means many competitors arrive in glorious fancy dress and there are several hotly contested heats including the fun Expressions Sessions and the more serious Championship competition. Judges look for the length of ride, wave selection, change of direction, style and the most radical manoeuvres in the most critical part of the wave.

Whether you plunge into the ocean to take part, spectate from the fantastic setting at Chapel Port beach or join in the Belly Boarding bake off competition where you can enter your specially made themed cake, a great day of fun and frolics by the sea is guaranteed. You don't even need to bring money as the entry fee is free!
